Equity fund inflows rose to ₹29,330 crore in August from ₹24,700 crore in July, while small- and mid-cap schemes led category-wise inflows as SIP collections hit a record high.

Equity mutual fund inflows remained strong in August, with core equity schemes witnessing net inflows of Rs 293.3 billion, up from Rs 247 billion in July, while monthly SIP collections touched an all-time high of Rs 322.97 billion, according to an Equirus Securities analysis.

The report said overall mutual fund assets under management increased 1.5 per cent month-on-month to around Rs 87.08 trillion in August, while average AUM rose 2.3 per cent month-on-month to around Rs 88.31 trillion. Equity AUM increased 2.7 per cent month-on-month to Rs 51.71 trillion, while liquid AUM rose 0.7 per cent month-on-month to Rs 12.01 trillion.

Net mutual fund inflows stood at Rs 0.41 trillion in August compared with Rs 2.36 trillion in July. Within core equity schemes, small-cap funds witnessed the highest net inflows of Rs 79.7 billion, followed by mid-cap funds at Rs 69.9 billion and large-cap funds at Rs 61.9 billion. ELSS and dividend-yield funds saw outflows during the month. Flexi-cap funds witnessed net inflows of Rs 50.6 billion in August, while sectoral/thematic funds recorded net inflows of Rs 17.1 billion compared with Rs 13.3 billion in July.

Ex-NFOs, net flows in core equity schemes were up more than 10 per cent month-on-month at around Rs 262.8 billion compared with Rs 239.3 billion in July. Hybrid schemes recorded inflows of around Rs 100.5 billion compared with inflows of Rs 114.9 billion in July. Within hybrid schemes, multi-asset funds saw inflows of Rs 36.7 billion, while balanced advantage funds saw outflows of around Rs 2.28 billion in August. Arbitrage funds saw net inflows of around Rs 37.9 billion compared with Rs 65.9 billion in July.

Inflows in passive funds stood at around Rs 109 billion compared with Rs 125 billion in July. Index funds saw net inflows of Rs 75.6 billion, while gold ETFs saw net inflows of Rs 26 billion compared with Rs 15.6 billion in July.

Monthly SIP collections reached an all-time high of Rs 322.97 billion in August, up from Rs 319.61 billion in July. Around 81 per cent of SIP flows were towards equity categories, while 6.5 per cent of SIP flows were towards hybrid categories. SIP flows in the small-cap category exceeded Rs 50 billion, while flows in the mid-cap and flexi-cap categories were in excess of Rs 50 billion.

Gross inflows across mutual fund schemes stood at Rs 14.09 trillion in August compared with Rs 15.98 trillion in July. Gross flows in core equity schemes increased 5.9 per cent month-on-month to around Rs 736 billion, while redemptions in core equity schemes, as a percentage of gross flows, declined to 60.2 per cent from 64.5 per cent in July.

Overall gross flows in debt funds stood at Rs 12.55 trillion in August compared with Rs 14.43 trillion in July. During August, liquid funds saw inflows of around Rs 199 billion, while money market funds recorded net inflows of around Rs 117.3 billion.

During August, about Rs 71.1 billion was raised through 26 NFOs compared with Rs 20.2 billion through 26 NFOs in July. Six NFOs were launched in core equity schemes during the month, which garnered around Rs 30.5 billion.

The large MF/SIF NFOs in August included SBI Balanced Hybrid Fund, which raised Rs 18.2 billion, Bandhan Contra Fund, which raised Rs 17.1 billion, and Magnum Equity Ex-Top 100 Long Short Fund by SBI AMC, which raised Rs 13.17 billion.

The report also highlighted strong growth in the Specialised Investment Fund segment. Overall SIF AUM as of August increased 34.5 per cent month-on-month to Rs 311.8 billion. Within this, equity-oriented strategies stood at Rs 97.9 billion, up 47.1 per cent month-on-month and forming 31.4 per cent of AUM, while hybrid investment strategies stood at Rs 213.9 billion, up 29.5 per cent month-on-month and forming 68.6 per cent of AUM.

Gross flows in SIFs for August stood at Rs 80.7 billion compared with Rs 53.7 billion in July. Net flows increased to Rs 77 billion from Rs 49.2 billion in July.

There were 33 schemes in the SIF category as of August 2026. During August, two NFOs were launched, namely Apex Equity Long-Short Fund by ABSLAMC, which garnered Rs 1.03 billion, and Magnum Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short Fund by SBI AMC, which garnered Rs 13.17 billion.

The number of folios in the SIF category increased 32.9 per cent month-on-month to 125.5 thousand.
